How the contact card works

Your details are written as a vCard — the plain-text contact format every phone, email app and CRM reads. The same vCard goes into three places: the .vcf file, the QR code and, in readable form, the card image and email signature.

The QR contains the contact itself, not a link to a page. Scanning it with a phone camera offers “Add to contacts” directly, so it works offline, can’t break if a website goes down, and there is no redirect that could track who scanned it.

  • vCard 3.0: the version both iPhone and Android contacts import cleanly. Name, role, company, phone, email, website, city (as a work address) and your one-liner (as the note).
  • Error correction level M: the code still scans with about 15% of it damaged, smudged or covered — a sensible balance between toughness and density.
  • A 4-module white border around the code, black on white, so it scans in both the light and dark card themes. The QR-only download is 1200×1200 px for print.

Why long contacts are trimmed in the QR

The more text a QR holds, the smaller its squares get and the harder it is to scan from a phone screen or a small printed card. We aim to keep the QR’s vCard under 380 bytes. If yours is longer, fields are dropped in this order until it fits: one-liner, city, company, title, link. Name, phone and email are never dropped, so a very long name or email can still leave it over — we flag that so you can shorten it. The .vcf file and signature always keep everything; the card image shortens very long lines with “…”.

Digital contact card maker: common questions

What is a digital business card?

It is your contact details in a form a phone can save in one step: a QR code, a .vcf contact file or a card image you can share on WhatsApp or email. This maker gives you all of them from one form, so a brand manager or creator can save you without typing your number.

Does scanning the QR open a link or save the contact?

It saves the contact. The QR holds the contact details themselves (a vCard), not a web address, so the phone camera offers “Add to contacts” straight away. It works offline, there is no link that can break, and nobody can track who scanned it.

What is a .vcf file?

A .vcf (vCard) file is the standard contact file every phone and email app understands. Send it on WhatsApp or attach it to an email and the other person taps it to save you. Ours uses vCard 3.0, the version iPhone and Android contacts both import cleanly.

Why are some of my details missing from the QR?

A QR holding a long contact gets dense and hard to scan from a phone screen or a small print, so we aim to keep it under 380 bytes. If your details go over that, we drop the one-liner first, then city, company, title and link — name, phone and email always stay. If it is still over (a very long name or email), we tell you so you can shorten it. The .vcf file and signature keep everything; the card image shortens very long lines with “…”.

Can brands and agencies use this?

Yes. Pick Brand or Agency at the top and the fields change to your role and company or agency name. It works the same for a D2C founder at an expo, a brand manager meeting creators, or an agency team handing out cards at an event.

How do I use it as an email signature?

Click “Copy email signature” and paste it into the signature setting of Gmail, Outlook or your phone’s mail app. It is plain text — name, role, one-liner, phone and email, your links and city — so it looks the same everywhere.

Is anything I type stored?

No. The card, QR and files are made entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to GetCollab or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Is it free? Do I need an app or an account?

It is free with no sign-up and no limit. The person scanning needs nothing either: the built-in camera app on iPhone and most Android phones reads the QR and offers to save the contact.
