To find micro-influencers (creators with roughly 10,000 to 100,000 followers) for a niche campaign, start from where your customers already spend attention, not from follower counts: search niche hashtags and keywords, look at who your existing customers follow, and check who already tags your brand or competitors. Then vet each creator’s audience (location, age, authenticity) before you contact them. Discovery software speeds up the search; the vetting is what decides results.
Step 1: Define the creator, not just the niche
Write down, before you search:
- Audience location: the country or city where you can ship or serve
- Content format: Reels, Stories, YouTube integrations, long-form reviews
- Proof of fit: creators who already make content about the problem your product solves
- Size band: nano (1K–10K), micro (10K–100K), mid-tier (100K–500K)
Step 2: Search manually first
Spend 30 minutes on the platform itself before buying a tool. It teaches you what good looks like.
- Instagram: search niche keywords and hashtags, open “Reels” results, and check the “suggested for you” accounts on profiles you like.
- TikTok: search the problem your product solves (“dry scalp routine”), not the product category.
- YouTube: search “[product type] review” and “[problem] how to”; small channels with consistent views beat large channels with uneven ones.
- Your own followers and customers: check who tags your brand or uses your product unprompted. These creators convert best and cost least.
Step 3: Vet the audience
| Check | What to look for | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Audience country | Majority in your market | Followers mostly outside where you sell |
| Engagement | Comments that discuss the content | Generic emoji comments, sudden follower spikes |
| Views vs followers | Recent Reels/videos get views in proportion to followers | 100K followers, 800 views |
| Past sponsored posts | Disclosed, and still engaging | Many undisclosed ads, or engagement drops on sponsored posts |
| Brand safety | Content you’d be comfortable next to | Anything you’d have to explain to a customer |
Ask shortlisted creators for an audience screenshot (country and age split) from their platform’s insights. Creators who work with brands expect this.
Step 4: Shortlist three times what you need
Response rates are never 100%. For 10 creators, shortlist 30.
Step 5: Reach out with the offer up front
State the deliverable, the fee (or commission) and the timeline in the first message. Creators ignore vague “collab?” DMs. See our outreach email template and creator brief template.
Step 6: Track results and rebook
Give each creator a unique link and code, and rebook the ones whose cost per result beats your other channels. See how to track influencer campaign performance.
Influencer discovery software compared
Discovery tools find creators in one of two ways. Databases index public profiles, so they cover huge numbers of creators but you do the outreach. Opt-in marketplaces list creators who signed up to work with brands, so pools are smaller but response rates tend to be higher. Facts below are from each company’s own website, checked 4 November 2026 (Collabstr and TikTok One: 28 October 2026).
| Tool | How it finds creators | Platforms | Entry price |
|---|---|---|---|
| GetCollab | AI shortlist from your brief, ranked on audience fit and past brand results | Instagram, YouTube | $149/month (₹2,999 in India); 7-day free trial |
| Modash | Database of public profiles over 1,000 followers (380M+) | Instagram, TikTok, YouTube | $199/month billed yearly; 14-day free trial |
| Upfluence | Search of 12M+ creators, plus opt-in marketplace applications | Not stated | Quote (call); 12-month minimum |
| CreatorIQ | Searchable data on what 20M creators post | Not stated in text | Quote (form) |
| GRIN | Opt-in creator network (700K+), searched by its AI agent | Not stated | Free plan (20% fee on deposits); Starter $200/month |
| Aspire | Opt-in marketplace plus outbound search | Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube | Quote (demo) |
| Collabstr | Opt-in marketplace (1.3M+) with priced packages | Not stated | Free plan (10% hiring fee) |
| TikTok One | TikTok’s own opt-in creator marketplace | TikTok only | Not stated |
Which to choose:
- Need the widest search and audience data: a database tool such as Modash or Upfluence.
- TikTok-only campaign: TikTok One, where it’s available.
- Small team that wants creators who’ll reply, plus contracts and payment handled: an opt-in marketplace or a platform that does outreach for you, such as GetCollab, GRIN or Collabstr.
GetCollab doesn’t currently cover TikTok. On Instagram and YouTube, its AI agent, Dabli, shortlists creators as soon as your brief is ready and sends the first outreach; you take over when creators reply. See how it works.

FAQ
Are micro-influencers better than macro-influencers? For sales per dollar, often yes: lower fees, closer audiences. For reach in one post, no. See micro vs macro influencers.
How many micro-influencers do I need for a campaign? Enough that one underperformer doesn’t decide the result. Five to twenty is a common range for a first campaign.
How do I spot fake followers? Compare recent views or likes with follower count, look for sudden follower jumps, and read the comments. Database tools also show an audience-authenticity estimate.
