6 Questions to Ask Before Your Next Creator Campaign

Most creator campaigns that underperform don’t fail because of bad content. They fail because of decisions made before a single brief went out. Here are six questions worth answering first.

1. What does “success” mean for this specific campaign?

Awareness, direct sales, or a content library to reuse in paid ads. These need different creators, different formats, and different measurement. Pick one primary goal before you start outreach.

2. Does this creator’s audience actually buy things like ours?

A creator can be a great fit for your category and a poor fit for your price point, or vice versa. Audience income/spending signals matter as much as category alignment.

3. What has this creator done for a brand our size before?

Case studies from campaigns 10x your budget aren’t a reliable signal. Ask for (or look up) results from brands closer to your own scale and category.

4. Who owns revisions, and how many rounds are built in?

Unclear revision expectations are a common source of campaign delay. Put the number of revision rounds in the contract, not just the brief.

5. How will the creator disclose the partnership?

India’s Department of Consumer Affairs published Endorsement Know-hows! (PIB, January 2023), which says influencers must disclose any material connection with a brand, including free products, discounts and barter, in plain terms such as “advertisement”, “sponsored” or “paid promotion”. ASCI’s influencer guidelines say the label must be upfront and prominent, not buried in a bio or among hashtags, and that advertiser and influencer share responsibility. Put the disclosure label in your brief and contract.

6. How will we actually track this once it’s live?

Decide your tracking method (coupon codes, UTM links, branded search monitoring) before content goes live, not after. Retrofitting attribution after the fact rarely works cleanly.

None of these questions require new tools, just answering them before outreach starts instead of after content is already live. It’s the difference between a campaign you can learn from and one you can only hope worked.

FAQ

Should payment terms be settled before the brief? Yes. Agree the fee, deliverables and revision rounds in a written contract before any money moves. On GetCollab, the contract comes first, then the brand funds the deal, Razorpay holds the payment securely, and it is released when you approve the work. See how it works.
